First time for everything

There’s a first time for everything. Today I made breakfast while holding a 21 pound toddler. Seriously, the whole time. I felt like I could be on Top Chef. You know, because they always have some weird QuickFire where they are blindfolded or one hand is behind their back. I would have preferred one hand behind my back because an extra 21 pounds of wiggly/easily frustrated/fascinated by everything mini monster on your hip is obviously trickier. Obviously. The whole time I was doing it I was determining how unsafe/safe it was to be cooking with him on my hip…but really, you gotta do what you gotta do. I also find there is an added benefit to when he watches me cook; he usually wants to try what I’m cooking! When he was a baby he would eat anything and everything I gave him, but in trampled the toddler years and he thinks everything is weird. He sticks his tongue out and touches everything to it before he puts it in his mouth. Maybe he’s just paranoid and always wants to check for poison. If that were the case, I am totally the type of mom that would praise him and tell him “Better safe than sorry!”

Another first was not wanting to touch my child. I really freakin mean that. He had a fine layer of dirt, chalk and bubbles all over himself. He got it in his hair, nose, ears,  on the cat, and on Adam (my husband). Apparently I’m only a team player to a point, because when he walked over to me, arms raised yelling “DOWN!” (he thinks down means up), I distracted him by showing him a new bubble wand and took a step away. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about boys being boys….but I’M a girl, you know what I mean? Luckily my husband came up with the less than classy idea of turning the sprinkler on for Isaac to run through, which was both genius and hilarious, and will be something I will remember for the rest of my life. I asked Adam who could see Isaac’s face better than me, “Does he like it?” He said, “You know….I don’t know!” Haha!
